MINDFULNESS MONDAY

Happy Labor Day!


I thought that for this week we would go back to the basics. Mindfulness in its basic concept is about being in the here and now. Being fully present in every moment to experience all of the richness and diversity that life has to offer us.


A suggestion for the week:

· Come to a comfortable position (seated or laying). You can have your eyes open or closed. Set a timer for a minimum of 5 minutes.

· Begin by focusing on your breath to settle into the restful position. Feel the air as it is passing in through your nose with a coolness at the tip of your nose, then feel the warmth on your upper lip as the air is passing on its way out. Feel the natural rhythm of your breath for a few minutes.

· Now I want you to move your attention lower and deeper into your chest. Feel your heat beating, pumping the blood throughout your body. You can have some assistance with your hand on your chest if needed, but try to focus all of you attention here beginning at your heart and even expanding out through your body noting your pulse in your arms and legs, hands and feet. You may even be able to feel it moving into your head.

· Stay with this internal awareness for a few minutes. Marvel at the efficiency that your body has, how it automatically sustains itself without any conscious direction by us. It is truly amazing.

· Allow your focus to move freely throughout your body touching on certain areas, or staying with the breath or heartbeat until your timer sounds- it is your choice.
