This week's MINDFULNESS MONDAY


Mindfulness is a state of awareness at the present moment of:

· What is occurring in and around us.

· How and what we are feeling in that moment.

· What we are thinking during that moment.

In striving to accomplish this state- even if only for a moment- it may be helpful to think about a phrase that is included in all mindful awareness practices:

“Awareness of awareness

and

attention to intention”


In starting down this path of mindfulness the first step is being aware of what we are or are not aware of- accepting that we are just starting and that our sense of being awake to the here and now is barely expanding and extending in and around us.


A suggestion for this week: At different times throughout your day- at work, at home, in conversations, when you are driving, during busy-work of cooking, cleaning, etc.- check in with yourself and see what you are aware of. Try not to just focus on your thoughts, but notice what you are feeling through your hands, if you are sitting what is the chair like? what sounds are around you? are you happy? sad? upset? hungry?

Take note of what you notice, just for yourself.


Next week we will expand on this with the second half of the phrase above.
